Top 5 Pump-Booster US-Version – Ranking
It is well-known that pump boosters can provide an arm-splitting pump effect and make veins bulge under the skin like power cables. Some pump boosters achieve this better than others. To help you know which ones are top performers, we present the best pump boosters in ranking form. We differentiate between EU pump boosters and US pump boosters. In this second part of our pump booster comparison, we focus on the best US pump boosters. If you are interested in the EU versions instead, read the first part: the 10 best pump boosters (EU version).
Due to the different regulations in the USA compared to EU legislation, US pump boosters are often formulated differently than EU pump boosters. This means they contain different ingredients or different amounts of ingredients that are permitted in the EU. You will learn why this is the case in this text. Of course, you will also find out which US pump boosters we believe offer the best deal and how we justify that.
US Pump Boosters: ‘Harder’ than what the EU allows?
Are US pump boosters fundamentally tougher – or more effective – than EU pump boosters? No, they are not. The additional ingredients that some of them contain are not miracle cures. For the most part, these are substances that make sense as a booster ingredient, but are by no means to be regarded as a "conditio sine qua non" (conditio sine qua non = [lat .] condition without which … / indispensable functional requirement). Nevertheless, they are effective. So why are they not also included in EU boosters? Simple answer: Because they are not authorized in the EU. And why are they not approved in the EU? The answer is not quite so simple. It has to do with the very complex EU food legislation, in particular the Novel Food Regulation.
The EU Novel Food Regulation – well-intentioned but poorly executed
After the Treaty on European Union was signed in Maastricht in the Netherlands in 1992, a process of developing regulations began that continues to this day. A milestone in this process was the "Novel Food Regulation", which came into force in 2015. According to this regulation, foods or food ingredients that were not used as food to any significant extent in the
EU before the deadline of May 15, 1997 may not be sold in the EU [1]. If a manufacturer does want to sell them in the EU, he must first apply to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for a test procedure. This is intended to prevent novel foods that may pose health risks from entering the EU. Problem: An EFSA test procedure is very lengthy and expensive – for many companies, the application is simply not economically viable. This explains why some very useful and harmless ingredients that are contained in US pump boosters are missing in EU pump boosters.
The 5 Best US Pump Boosters at a Glance
But enough of the preliminaries: If you want to buy products from the ‘Pump Booster US Version’ category and achieve a brutal muscle pump, here are our recommendations (see the ranking below). As in the first part of our pump booster comparison, the ranking in this second part is also organized from bottom to top: first, we present the last place, then the second to last, and so on – until we reveal the test winner at the end.

#5: Alpha Lion - Superhuman Pump
The Alpha Lion Superhuman Pump is the successor to the popular Komodo Pump. Alpha Lion relies on 3000 mg of HydroPrime® with 65% concentrated glycerol in the Superhuman Pump. The manufacturer of HydroPrime promises to prevent the common problem of powder clumping due to glycerol‘s water-binding properties. In addition to HydroPrime®, the pump formula includes 8000 mg of citrulline malate and 150 mg of the patented ingredient S7. This is a blend of seven plant-based ingredients designed to increase nitric oxide (NO) production in the body, thereby enhancing blood flow and oxygen supply.
Additionally, Superhuman Pump contains 3500 mg of beta-alanine, which delays muscle fatigue, and 600 mg of lion’s mane, derived from the mushroom Hericium erinaceus, known for its potential neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing properties. Other ingredients known for their nootropic effects include AlphaSize® (300 mg), a highly bioavailable form of choline, and Huperzine A 1% (300 mcg). The formula is completed with the electrolytes sodium, potassium, and magnesium.

#4: Evoled Nutrition Agmatine 90 Caps
As the name suggests, this is a capsule product containing just one active ingredient: agmatine sulfate. However, this ingredient is truly powerful and is referred to as ‘super-arginine‘ – not only because of its structural similarity to arginine but especially due to its significantly stronger effects, as nitric oxide production is stimulated to a much greater extent than with arginine. Since agmatine falls under the Novel Food Regulation within the EU and is therefore not officially marketable in Germany, it is primarily found in US products.
In addition to its powerful pump effect, agmatine also has nootropic properties. Another benefit is its pain-relieving effects, as well as improved recovery. Per capsule, you receive 500 mg of agmatine, which also works perfectly as a stack for your pre-workout.

#3: Levrone – Shaaboom Pump (US)
The US version of the Levrone Shaaboom Pump is expectedly much stronger than its EU counterpart. Additionally, it contains caffeine again, but not 200 mg like in the EU version, but double that amount, namely 400 mg. However, the main focus is on the 2000 mg of AgmaMAX®, a patented form of agmatine sulfate. Since agmatine is not officially marketable in Germany, this vein-bursting ingredient is mainly found in US products. Due to its structural similarity to arginine, but with a significantly stronger effect, agmatine is often referred to as ‘super-arginine.’
Along with agmatine, 2000 mg of citrulline malate and 2000 mg of arginine AKG (arginine alpha-ketoglutarate) provide the necessary support for pumps. CarnoSyn® is another branded raw material included, which is a particularly high-quality form of beta-alanine. The effect of the non-essential amino acid beta-alanine acts directly within the cells, significantly increasing the carnosine levels, which leads to a reduction in pH levels, thus diminishing the negative effects of lactic acid on the muscles. As a result, muscle fatigue sets in later, allowing for more intense training sessions. In addition, Shaaboom Pump contains creatine monohydrate, tri-creatine malate, which includes three different creatine molecules connected to a malic acid molecule, as well as creatine HCL.

#2: Hammer Labz – Steel X Pump
Hammer Labz delivers the Steel X Pump, a pump booster that particularly stands out due to its inclusion of agmatine sulfate (1500 mg). This is a metabolic product formed through decarboxylation – that is, by removing a carboxyl group – from the amino acid L-arginine. The amino acid promotes the release of nitric oxide (NO) in the body, which has a vasodilatory effect. As a consequence, this means that L-arginine ensures increased blood flow to the muscles during training. However, since agmatine has a significantly stronger effect, it is often referred to as ‘super-arginine.’
Additionally, agmatine acts as a neurotransmitter. By blocking NMDA receptor channels and other cation channels, it lowers pain perception, which in turn allows for harder and more intense training. Moreover, agmatine has antioxidant properties and reduces recovery time. Within the EU, agmatine falls under the Novel Food Regulation and is therefore not officially marketable in Germany. Consequently, agmatine is not found in EU boosters.
After this brief excursion into agmatine, we certainly don’t want to overlook the other ingredients in Steel X Pump. In addition to the mentioned agmatine, it also contains a good 6000 mg of pure L-citrulline, 3000 mg of beta-alanine, which counteracts muscle fatigue, 2000 mg of arginine AKG (arginine alpha-ketoglutarate), a form of arginine with very high bioavailability, 2000 mg of GlycerPump® (65% glycerol), 500 mg of arginine in nitrate form, 500 mg of beetroot extract, 150 mg of norvaline, and pink Himalayan salt.

#1: Skull Labs – Angel Dust Pump
Contrary to what the name might suggest, the Angel Dust Pump from the Polish supplement manufacturer Skull Labs is not a stimulant-free pump booster. A quick look at the label reveals almost the entire range of (hardcore) stimulants. In the Angel Dust Pump, we find 300 mg of caffeine, 200 mg of Eria Jarensis, 700 mg of beta-phenylethylamine, and 50 mg each of hordenine, higenamine, and N-methyl L-tyramine HCL. Notably, 100 mg each of DMHA and DMAA stand out. Together, these ingredients guarantee a massive energy boost, euphoric workouts, and laser-sharp focus. There’s no more stimulants than this!
This is complemented by substantial dosages of the pump ingredients citrulline malate (6000 mg) as well as arginine AKG and agmatine (each 2000 mg), which also explains the naming of the booster. Skull Labs combines a hardcore booster with the most effective pump ingredients, bringing together the best of both booster worlds. We have often criticized the lack of pump and the insufficient vascularity in our hardcore booster reviews – this can definitely be ruled out here. This also results in a hefty serving size of 17.5 grams per serving. In addition to the stimulant section and the pump ingredients, Angel Dust Pump also contains beta-alanine, taurine, creatine nitrate, choline bitartrate, GABA, and for thermogenesis and to accelerate fat metabolism, 2 mg each of yohimbine bark extract and alpha yohimbine.

1. What additional ingredients are found in US pump boosters?
Are there even ‘typical’ US pump booster ingredients – that is, ingredients that are exclusively or predominantly found in American pump boosters (US version)? Yes, there are. However, there aren’t too many, to begin with.
Agmatine
Among all the pump booster ingredients that are only found in US products, agmatine is probably the most important substance. Agmatine (more specifically, agmatine sulfate) is a metabolic product formed through decarboxylation – that is, by removing a carboxyl group – from the amino acid L-arginine. L-arginine is well-known among booster fans: the amino acid promotes the release of nitric oxide (NO) in the body, which has a vasodilatory effect. Consequently, this means that L-arginine ensures increased blood flow to the muscles during training. Accordingly, L-arginine is one of the key pump booster ingredients, both in pump boosters for the USA and in pump boosters for the EU.
Agmatine works in terms of the pump effect essentially the same as L-arginine – but three times stronger [2]. For this reason, agmatine is also referred to in the supplement scene as ‘super-arginine.’ But that’s not all: agmatine also acts as a neurotransmitter. By blocking NMDA receptor channels and other cation channels, it reduces pain perception. For bodybuilders, this means they can train beyond their pain threshold more easily [3]. Additionally, agmatine has antioxidant properties and helps reduce recovery time.
Within the EU, agmatine is unfortunately classified as a ‘novel food,’ which is why the substance is banned as an ingredient in dietary supplements according to the Novel Food Regulation. The fact that it naturally occurs in foods such as meat, fish, and certain vegetables makes no difference. For more information on agmatine, check out our Agmatin Guide: Massive Pump through Agmatine Sulfate.
Theanine
Theanine, or L-theanine, is a non-proteinogenic amino acid. It is found in the leaves of the tea plant (hence its name) but can also be synthetically produced. As a booster ingredient, it is interesting because, like agmatine, it acts as a neurotransmitter and influences serotonin levels in the brain. After the consumption of theanine, there is an increase in alpha and delta waves in a person’s brain [4]. This is an indication that theanine promotes mental clarity and relaxation, as well as improved concentration. Specifically, in combination with caffeine, theanine is said to enhance mental focus (e.g., for training).
Since pump boosters generally do not contain caffeine, theanine as a pump booster ingredient is somewhat unusual (even in the USA); however, some pump boosters do contain theanine. In the EU, the same applies to theanine as to agmatine: the substance falls under the Novel Food Regulation. Therefore, as a dietary supplement ingredient, it is prohibited without an individual approval process.
Norvaline
Norvaline is a derivative of the essential amino acid L-valine. This derivative has the unique ability to raise the arginine levels in the body. This is because norvaline inhibits the enzyme arginase – an enzyme that breaks down arginine by converting it into urea. As a pump booster ingredient, norvaline is therefore highly sensible. As a result, norvaline is typically listed on the ingredient label of most US pump boosters.
Within the EU, the legal situation regarding norvaline is unclear: while norvaline is not listed in the official Novel Food catalog, the substance was not widely available on the market in the EU before 1997. Whether it should be classified as a novel food thus depends on the respective court in case of a dispute. However, since norvaline is at least problematic (in May 2021, the manufacturers of the booster Galenikus received a warning due to the ingredient norvaline [5]), most EU manufacturers refrain from using this ingredient.
Yohimbine
Yohimbine is a substance primarily known as an ingredient in fat burners and potency enhancers. It is extracted from the leaves and bark of the African yohimbe tree and can block the alpha-2 receptors in the muscle tissue of blood vessels. This leads to the relaxation of this muscle tissue, causing the blood vessels to dilate. Yohimbine thus also increases blood flow – particularly to the sexual organs. Additionally, since yohimbine has a psychoactive effect and poses certain risks for individuals with heart failure, the substance has been completely banned in the EU as an ingredient in dietary supplements since 2019, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/650.
2. How do US pump boosters work?
US pump boosters work the same way as EU pump boosters: they enhance the pump effect during training. Whether they do this better than EU pump boosters cannot be said universally – it primarily depends on the dosage of the ingredients and the serving size. An EU booster that contains only a few effective ingredients but delivers 22 g of powder per serving may work better than a US pump booster with many ingredients but only a 15 g serving size. However, due to the fact that some US boosters contain neurotransmitter substances, US boosters may also have psychoactive effects. They can reduce pain perception (through agmatine) or stimulate the central nervous system (through yohimbine). Such effects are not to be expected from EU boosters.
3. Do US pump boosters have side effects?
US pump boosters that contain agmatine or yohimbine can indeed have certain side effects. For example, agmatine can cause a drop in blood pressure and blood sugar levels due to its strong vasodilatory effect [6]. Additionally, agmatine has a slight appetite-stimulating effect. (The latter is actually not a disadvantage – as one should eat after a workout.) Yohimbine can cause restlessness, sleep problems, irritability, and headaches. Because yohimbine also stimulates the release of the stress hormone norepinephrine, it can lead to slight heart palpitations, dizziness, and finger tremors after consumption.
4. Who should buy US pump boosters?
US pump boosters are suitable for those who expect a good pump and a certain mental stimulation from a pump booster, without caffeine being involved. (Like EU pump boosters, US pump boosters are generally caffeine-free.) After all, caffeine in a booster is not for everyone; those who train late at night can’t use a caffeine-containing booster. On the other hand, if someone only values a good pump effect – without any psycho-activation – they should stick to EU pump boosters.
